"You Inspire Me To Be The Higher Me..."

Shheeeeeee’ssssss baccckkk! Hola my wonderful readers, I’m BACK in 2010 with plans of really taking The Real Sidney Shaw to the NEXT LEVEL….but of course I need your support. I have a few ideas that I’m going to test out for this week and I need people to let me know if they are liking them or not. Leave or comment or email me. I appreciate all of my readers and I PROMISE I won’t let you down this time. Updates will be VERY VERY frequent… Without further a due …

I absolutely LOVE Lauryn Hill she’s one of my FAVORITE singers, and this is my absolute favorite Lauryn

Hill song ever.(I don't only like her because we share the same name and spelling) This song came out WAAAAYYY back when MTV was still playing real music, and when they had HOT shows like MTV Unplugged. I remember getting this DVD and this album when I was like 8th grade as a Christmas present but not really appreciating it because these weren’t any of the songs from “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill”

I was randomly listening to Pandora (thank goodness for Pandora!!) and I heard “I Gotta Find Peace of Mind” and I started crying (okay I’m a SAP!) because the message in this song is so powerful. Especially at the 8 minute mark when Lauryn starts crying mid song. The song is AMAZING. If it wasn’t for this song my last end of the year 2009 would have been #terrible (I know too much Twitter all bad).

I LOVE and ADMIRE this woman because she truly is an artist who has nothing but pure talent. I wish the music industry was fool of more people who made beautiful, meaningful music as such. I’m so ready for Lauryn to release another project because this one was great. Any other favorite songs from this album? Lemme know…leave a comment or email me!

*Monday will be “music Monday” where I showcase some of my favorite songs, songs that get heavy rotation on my iTunes or even some new songs that I’m feeling. If you have any suggestions let me know!

Two Birds...One Stone

Hello my internet loves...

Today's post isn't going to be a little different. I have an advertising class where I have to blog, tweet, be on facebook...all that good stuff and once of our assignments was to create a blog. Clearly....you guys know that I already have this blog right here...so I'm going to take just a few steps back and explain WHY I have this blog (that I try my BEST to update)

So WHY did I create TheRealSidneyShaw.blogspot.com? Well...I'm glad that you asked...My FAVORITE movie in the ENTIRE world is Brown Sugar. Sanaa Lathan's character Sidney Shaw is my role model even though she's a character in a movie. When I think of Sidney Shaw I think of music, I think of fashion, style, entertainment...and just a tad bit of love (I'm kinda back on that anti-love tip again..sorry guys) I want my blog to embody everything that is Sidney...everything that is Brown Sugar...and my journey to becoming and fully embodying the persona of The Real Sidney Shaw.

So far on the resume we have:
  • Assistant to the HOTTEST new designer Ashley Sierra Reed (google her)
  • Social Media Intern for The Fashion Bomb at FashionBombDaily.com
  • Sony Music Licensing Intern/College Rep Assistant.
  • BET.Com Intern for the 2009 BET AWARDS
  • Radio personality for various stations.....
Some other things too...but I'm too lazy to name em all.

So how am I doing? Am I getting this Sidney Shaw thing down? I hope so...My current project is applying for Grad School at Columbia College in Chicago, IL. The plan is to get a Master's in Arts & Entertainment Management (I think?) Sidney went to Columbia...(but I'm sure it was Columbia University...but that's not the point) so the plan is to continue to follow in her footsteps!

Life is BEYOND hectic right now so I can't continue on with this post like I really want to...(and I'm currently watching I Wanna Work For Diddy 2. If I don't make it into grad I'm applying for season 3 BTW) ...but there is more work to be done. Like I always I gotta leave y'all with something...amazing.

So here ya go in honor of me getting into grad school it's ya boyyyyy:

Kanye West "Homecoming" Chi City...are you ready for me? Let's see...

Do you remember the ORIGINAL Black Eyed Peas?

So my friend's son is two and he LOVES Black Eyed Peas "Boom Boom Pow". I think it's a cool song but that's not that B.E.P. whom I remember or used to like. For a few weeks ago I've been trying to remember B.E.P. post Fergie. Sadly, if you don't remember them before her..you get an uber #fail (for all my twitter heads out there).

Here's the FIRST B.E.P. video I remember watching when I was little "Joints & Jam" circa 1998

This video, the music...everything is so 90's hip hop and I love it. I kinda wish B.E.P. would go back to when they were making music like this. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they blew up and are all over the charts...but you can't tell me this wasn't a HOT song and video! You CAN'T!

That is all guys...see I posted..be happy okay?

Might post another blog this week...I have another song I miss watching when I was little...

Later Dayz.

It's Been Too Long...

Sorry Guys! I've been REALLY busy with school, and work and what not and now I'm an intern with The Fashion Bomb (Fashionbombdaily.com) so check out Claire and the gang..

But I was talking to Cliff Skighwalker via the lovely Skype and we were discussing music. I asked him if he remembered Corey "Latif" Williams we agreed that he was dope...so tell me what you think?
Latif was suppose to be the New Age Teddy Pendergrass who actually mentored him while he was growing up. Latif hasn't been out of the spotlight too long...he actually has been writing for some of our favorite artist. He's given writer's credit for such artist and songs as :

Musiq Soulchild "Teach Me" Cheri Dennis "I Love You", Chris Brown "Damage" among many others. Those are just my top 3 faves that he's written.

Here's his video for "I Don't Wanna Hurt You" which reminds me of a newer version of Donell Jones "Where I Wanna Be"

One of my favorite songs that he had was "Love In The First"...LOVE that song. I've been trying to buy his album for YEARS via someone's Amazon or E-Bay...if someone wants to get it for me I'd appreciate it.

If someone knows ya boy Latif...show him this post. I miss him and I need more REAL talented artist like him!!

If you comment...it'll inspire me to update more!!

Back By Popular Demand

I'm back from Los Angeles. I cut the trip short. Sad I know right? That means Bye-Bye to Sony Music internship (for now)...bye to my beautiful palm trees...and the wonderful Los Angeles life...now it's back to being a college student (a graduating senior by the way) But let's recap my AMAZING LAST NIGHT in LA? You ready? Cuz here it goes.

Daltek Global and Social Butterfly had a pre-ESPY event "The Timeless Gentlemen" it was honoring two hot stylist Dawn Haynes and Jonathan Kanarek. I met Dawn Haynes she's like the coolest ever! If you don't know who she is then YOU FAIL! Her clients include Eddie Murphy, Jamie Foxx, Halle Berry, Ludacris....just to name a few...but here's a few pics...

So this is me with Dawn at her crib. I would show y'all... her FLYY Spanish Castle but I'm not sure if she'd appreciate all of that...so I'll just post this pic for now. The lady has an amazing fashion sense and design sense. She's been in the game since she was 17. I learned a lot about her and a lot of life life in general from listening to her stories and being around her in the short amount of time I was in Los Angeles. She said we'd do lunch next time I came back...believe I will be calling her next time in LA. (this is such a bad pic of me okay? it was a rough day)

So the day of the event was mad crazy hectic...but despite all the nonsense it turned out to be pretty hot. Of course I had to get flyy for the event cuz apparently I look like I'm 16 and I had to show ppl in LA I'm an adult LOL.

Okay moving on to the event. So the event was at the Cocoa Cola Loft in downtown Los Angeles. The loft was amazing. Also Celebrity Chef G.Garvin came thru and put on a cooking show and some of ur fave celebs showed up.

A pic of the loft when the event first started.
Not a HOT pic of G. Garvin but LOL it'll have to do.
Here's a pic of the back of John Salle's head.. Tichina Arnold, and Rockmond Dunbar (he was super cool. He was one of the first people I met at the event. He's super nice. and a great actor)

Here's actress Tasha Smith in this pic. John Salle..etc. Tasha Smith was MAD COOL. I had to get her to take pictures on the red carpet and she was really nice. I was her personal assistant for like 5 minutes holding her purse and her what not. She kept thanking me over and over. I was thinking "girl it's a honor to be in ur presence" she's such a dope actress.

Everyone knows I was a HUGE B2K fan back in the day! He wasn't in B2K but...if u're a B2K fan you know him. Ricky Romance aka Ricky Thornton..Raz-B's older brother. He's a manager/producer/a lot of stuff. He was super cool and we ended up going to his friends crib in Bel-Air for a pool party later. We made smores! Ricky's an awesome guy. Maybe I should follow him a twitter...lol.

Here's just some random pics of Tichina and Dawn

I met Tichina Arnold for a few brief seconds. She was really nice as well. She was hilarious the entire night though. Like she's really funny and gorgeous as well. Y'all see how flyy Dawn looks? LOL really step your game up and research her...this lady is GREAT!

The BEST part of that ENTIRE NIGHT was when I met this guy right here!
Hosea Chanchez aka Malik El Debarge Wright from THE GAME aka my FAVORITE SHOW! I had seen him a month before out at this party but I was too shy to approach him. So this time..my sister told me he was there and I FINALLY spoke to him and got this picture. Ne one who knows me KNOWS I'm a HUGE fan of The Game. (BET NEEDS TO PICK IT UP ASAP). Hosea was really nice and he thanked me for being a fan. And he's fine as you can see..yes ladies he's REALLY fine in person okay?

As u can see I had an AMAZING LAST NIGHT in Los Angeles. GREAT TIMES..

I updated..you should all be happy!!! LEAVE COMMENTS! I posted pics.

This Sidney Shaw stuff is kinda cool. I'm tryna make it. I need SUPPORT!

Late Night Sessions...

So I made the MISTAKE of telling Olamide that I finally posted his new single "Slow Down" on my blog. Now I've been up listening to NEWER and OLDER Imajin songs. Oh yeah...Olamide has now started his blog (again) due to my encouragement (right Olamide?) so make sure y'all go over and support Olamide. He's now apart of the Blogspot fam! (http://olamidemusic.blogspot.com/)

Remember how I said I liked Imajin because they played their own instruments and had a different feel to them? I have some more proof of how flyy they really are. Head to their Myspace and listen to the tracks they have on their. Apparently they are 3 albums deep and yet the rest of the world isnt' aware of that. (Yeah Olamide just told me that one). The current song I'm listening to is a Mario Winans production "Can't Forget" co written by Olamide and John. Song is pretty hot one of those songs I'd probably add to a playlist entitled "The Golden Years" but that's a different story LOL.

Another song I LOVE is "Fatal" I think I first heard this song last summer and I pretty much would go on Youtube everyday and listen to it. It's another track that would make the "Golden" list but the song is really hot. It just has a a real mellow feel. It's one of those tracks you play in the background, light some candles and reminisce about whoever you are missing...

My other faves are "That's What's Up" and "Anything". "That's What's Up" has this party/chilling vibe to it. It just kinda makes you dance a little...I'm not sure how to explain it. But I like it...it's different...totally different from the songs we have out right now like "Birthday Sex" and "Boyfriend #2" don't get me wrong...I do occasionally listen to those songs...but their music just sounds so...what's the word I'm looking for? Pure?

Like I said in my previous post I've been down with Imajin since the late 90's...98/99. So I've been listening to them since they were all sounded like sopranos pre-puberty. So it's cool to listen to them now post puberty. Voices all mature...they've really grown literally...but as artist as well. The style of music has changed into a more grown up feel no longer the kiddie pop and r&b songs they once sang. This time songs have more meaning, they are more personal...some probably based on real life situations.

There's nothing bad I can say about these guys. I respect TRUE ARTIST...once again if you can PLAY an instrument and sing at the same time? You're a TRUE ARTIST. I believe in an article I read on Bilboard.com back in the 90's they compared Imajin to the Jackson 5. Deep right? Hmmmm I voiced my opinion. Now you voice yours...

Make sure you check out Olamide's blog though y'all. Leave ME comments and him too.

...gotta love those night sessions...
