Two Birds...One Stone

Hello my internet loves...

Today's post isn't going to be a little different. I have an advertising class where I have to blog, tweet, be on facebook...all that good stuff and once of our assignments was to create a blog. Clearly....you guys know that I already have this blog right here...so I'm going to take just a few steps back and explain WHY I have this blog (that I try my BEST to update)

So WHY did I create TheRealSidneyShaw.blogspot.com? Well...I'm glad that you asked...My FAVORITE movie in the ENTIRE world is Brown Sugar. Sanaa Lathan's character Sidney Shaw is my role model even though she's a character in a movie. When I think of Sidney Shaw I think of music, I think of fashion, style, entertainment...and just a tad bit of love (I'm kinda back on that anti-love tip again..sorry guys) I want my blog to embody everything that is Sidney...everything that is Brown Sugar...and my journey to becoming and fully embodying the persona of The Real Sidney Shaw.

So far on the resume we have:
  • Assistant to the HOTTEST new designer Ashley Sierra Reed (google her)
  • Social Media Intern for The Fashion Bomb at FashionBombDaily.com
  • Sony Music Licensing Intern/College Rep Assistant.
  • BET.Com Intern for the 2009 BET AWARDS
  • Radio personality for various stations.....
Some other things too...but I'm too lazy to name em all.

So how am I doing? Am I getting this Sidney Shaw thing down? I hope so...My current project is applying for Grad School at Columbia College in Chicago, IL. The plan is to get a Master's in Arts & Entertainment Management (I think?) Sidney went to Columbia...(but I'm sure it was Columbia University...but that's not the point) so the plan is to continue to follow in her footsteps!

Life is BEYOND hectic right now so I can't continue on with this post like I really want to...(and I'm currently watching I Wanna Work For Diddy 2. If I don't make it into grad I'm applying for season 3 BTW) ...but there is more work to be done. Like I always I gotta leave y'all with something...amazing.

So here ya go in honor of me getting into grad school it's ya boyyyyy:

Kanye West "Homecoming" Chi City...are you ready for me? Let's see...

Do you remember the ORIGINAL Black Eyed Peas?

So my friend's son is two and he LOVES Black Eyed Peas "Boom Boom Pow". I think it's a cool song but that's not that B.E.P. whom I remember or used to like. For a few weeks ago I've been trying to remember B.E.P. post Fergie. Sadly, if you don't remember them before her..you get an uber #fail (for all my twitter heads out there).

Here's the FIRST B.E.P. video I remember watching when I was little "Joints & Jam" circa 1998

This video, the music...everything is so 90's hip hop and I love it. I kinda wish B.E.P. would go back to when they were making music like this. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they blew up and are all over the charts...but you can't tell me this wasn't a HOT song and video! You CAN'T!

That is all guys...see I posted..be happy okay?

Might post another blog this week...I have another song I miss watching when I was little...

Later Dayz.

It's Been Too Long...

Sorry Guys! I've been REALLY busy with school, and work and what not and now I'm an intern with The Fashion Bomb (Fashionbombdaily.com) so check out Claire and the gang..

But I was talking to Cliff Skighwalker via the lovely Skype and we were discussing music. I asked him if he remembered Corey "Latif" Williams we agreed that he was dope...so tell me what you think?
Latif was suppose to be the New Age Teddy Pendergrass who actually mentored him while he was growing up. Latif hasn't been out of the spotlight too long...he actually has been writing for some of our favorite artist. He's given writer's credit for such artist and songs as :

Musiq Soulchild "Teach Me" Cheri Dennis "I Love You", Chris Brown "Damage" among many others. Those are just my top 3 faves that he's written.

Here's his video for "I Don't Wanna Hurt You" which reminds me of a newer version of Donell Jones "Where I Wanna Be"

One of my favorite songs that he had was "Love In The First"...LOVE that song. I've been trying to buy his album for YEARS via someone's Amazon or E-Bay...if someone wants to get it for me I'd appreciate it.

If someone knows ya boy Latif...show him this post. I miss him and I need more REAL talented artist like him!!

If you comment...it'll inspire me to update more!!

Back By Popular Demand

I'm back from Los Angeles. I cut the trip short. Sad I know right? That means Bye-Bye to Sony Music internship (for now)...bye to my beautiful palm trees...and the wonderful Los Angeles life...now it's back to being a college student (a graduating senior by the way) But let's recap my AMAZING LAST NIGHT in LA? You ready? Cuz here it goes.

Daltek Global and Social Butterfly had a pre-ESPY event "The Timeless Gentlemen" it was honoring two hot stylist Dawn Haynes and Jonathan Kanarek. I met Dawn Haynes she's like the coolest ever! If you don't know who she is then YOU FAIL! Her clients include Eddie Murphy, Jamie Foxx, Halle Berry, Ludacris....just to name a few...but here's a few pics...

So this is me with Dawn at her crib. I would show y'all... her FLYY Spanish Castle but I'm not sure if she'd appreciate all of that...so I'll just post this pic for now. The lady has an amazing fashion sense and design sense. She's been in the game since she was 17. I learned a lot about her and a lot of life life in general from listening to her stories and being around her in the short amount of time I was in Los Angeles. She said we'd do lunch next time I came back...believe I will be calling her next time in LA. (this is such a bad pic of me okay? it was a rough day)

So the day of the event was mad crazy hectic...but despite all the nonsense it turned out to be pretty hot. Of course I had to get flyy for the event cuz apparently I look like I'm 16 and I had to show ppl in LA I'm an adult LOL.

Okay moving on to the event. So the event was at the Cocoa Cola Loft in downtown Los Angeles. The loft was amazing. Also Celebrity Chef G.Garvin came thru and put on a cooking show and some of ur fave celebs showed up.

A pic of the loft when the event first started.
Not a HOT pic of G. Garvin but LOL it'll have to do.
Here's a pic of the back of John Salle's head.. Tichina Arnold, and Rockmond Dunbar (he was super cool. He was one of the first people I met at the event. He's super nice. and a great actor)

Here's actress Tasha Smith in this pic. John Salle..etc. Tasha Smith was MAD COOL. I had to get her to take pictures on the red carpet and she was really nice. I was her personal assistant for like 5 minutes holding her purse and her what not. She kept thanking me over and over. I was thinking "girl it's a honor to be in ur presence" she's such a dope actress.

Everyone knows I was a HUGE B2K fan back in the day! He wasn't in B2K but...if u're a B2K fan you know him. Ricky Romance aka Ricky Thornton..Raz-B's older brother. He's a manager/producer/a lot of stuff. He was super cool and we ended up going to his friends crib in Bel-Air for a pool party later. We made smores! Ricky's an awesome guy. Maybe I should follow him a twitter...lol.

Here's just some random pics of Tichina and Dawn

I met Tichina Arnold for a few brief seconds. She was really nice as well. She was hilarious the entire night though. Like she's really funny and gorgeous as well. Y'all see how flyy Dawn looks? LOL really step your game up and research her...this lady is GREAT!

The BEST part of that ENTIRE NIGHT was when I met this guy right here!
Hosea Chanchez aka Malik El Debarge Wright from THE GAME aka my FAVORITE SHOW! I had seen him a month before out at this party but I was too shy to approach him. So this time..my sister told me he was there and I FINALLY spoke to him and got this picture. Ne one who knows me KNOWS I'm a HUGE fan of The Game. (BET NEEDS TO PICK IT UP ASAP). Hosea was really nice and he thanked me for being a fan. And he's fine as you can see..yes ladies he's REALLY fine in person okay?

As u can see I had an AMAZING LAST NIGHT in Los Angeles. GREAT TIMES..

I updated..you should all be happy!!! LEAVE COMMENTS! I posted pics.

This Sidney Shaw stuff is kinda cool. I'm tryna make it. I need SUPPORT!

Late Night Sessions...

So I made the MISTAKE of telling Olamide that I finally posted his new single "Slow Down" on my blog. Now I've been up listening to NEWER and OLDER Imajin songs. Oh yeah...Olamide has now started his blog (again) due to my encouragement (right Olamide?) so make sure y'all go over and support Olamide. He's now apart of the Blogspot fam! (http://olamidemusic.blogspot.com/)

Remember how I said I liked Imajin because they played their own instruments and had a different feel to them? I have some more proof of how flyy they really are. Head to their Myspace and listen to the tracks they have on their. Apparently they are 3 albums deep and yet the rest of the world isnt' aware of that. (Yeah Olamide just told me that one). The current song I'm listening to is a Mario Winans production "Can't Forget" co written by Olamide and John. Song is pretty hot one of those songs I'd probably add to a playlist entitled "The Golden Years" but that's a different story LOL.

Another song I LOVE is "Fatal" I think I first heard this song last summer and I pretty much would go on Youtube everyday and listen to it. It's another track that would make the "Golden" list but the song is really hot. It just has a a real mellow feel. It's one of those tracks you play in the background, light some candles and reminisce about whoever you are missing...

My other faves are "That's What's Up" and "Anything". "That's What's Up" has this party/chilling vibe to it. It just kinda makes you dance a little...I'm not sure how to explain it. But I like it...it's different...totally different from the songs we have out right now like "Birthday Sex" and "Boyfriend #2" don't get me wrong...I do occasionally listen to those songs...but their music just sounds so...what's the word I'm looking for? Pure?

Like I said in my previous post I've been down with Imajin since the late 90's...98/99. So I've been listening to them since they were all sounded like sopranos pre-puberty. So it's cool to listen to them now post puberty. Voices all mature...they've really grown literally...but as artist as well. The style of music has changed into a more grown up feel no longer the kiddie pop and r&b songs they once sang. This time songs have more meaning, they are more personal...some probably based on real life situations.

There's nothing bad I can say about these guys. I respect TRUE ARTIST...once again if you can PLAY an instrument and sing at the same time? You're a TRUE ARTIST. I believe in an article I read on Bilboard.com back in the 90's they compared Imajin to the Jackson 5. Deep right? Hmmmm I voiced my opinion. Now you voice yours...

Make sure you check out Olamide's blog though y'all. Leave ME comments and him too.

...gotta love those night sessions...

2nd Blog: Support! Support! Support!

R.I.P. to VIBE MAGAZINE (1992-2009)

One of my goals in life was to be E-in-C of VIBE. I’ve been reading and collecting VIBE from as long as I can remember. There is a HUGE stack of them at my mom’s crib in Michigan! I remember reading this article about Amerie that VIBE did andI remember thinking WOW I want to write an article that is so appealing it makes you care about an artist that you never had any interest in before. It’s so sad that amazing publications like that fold. My home boy Landon is an intern there for the summer. (Check out his blog as well http://straightouttahiphop.com)

Thank You to EVERYONE who has been supporting my blog so far. I greatly appreciate it! The more you all comment and let me know your thoughts about the blog the more it’ll inspire me to write since I have an audience. Calling me, texting me, tweeting and aim’n is cool. But try and comment ON THE BLOG PLEASE! THANKS- MGMT

One of my first memories of Los Angeles had to be when I was around 10 years old. My mother, brother and I had came back to LA and I believe it was the first time I had been back since my birth. On the plane ride there I think my mom bought me a “Right On” magazine and I remember being on the plane reading about some new r&b sensation. Before there was B2K, before there was B5 (LOL sorry that was funny though) ATL, Day 26…there was Olamide, Talib, John, and Jamal (who was later replaced) aka Imajin. I had no clue what their music sounded like, I simply just thought they were pretty cute I was 10! I remember getting to LA and hanging out with my Godsister ReAlitee (yes that’s her government name) she’s had to be like 13/14 at the time and she introduced me to Imajin. We went to the Beverly Center and I purchased their first single “Shorty You Keep Playing With My Mind”

From there on…I was pretty much addicted. I went on every website, fan page, to learn more information about my NEW FAVORITE group Imajin. I even had my own website dedicated to them. ImajinOnline.com (I’m pretty sure that URL no longer works). I think at one point in time I wrote my own remix to “Shorty You Keep Playing With My Mind” (but I was 10 and it probably sucked so I will NOT try to remember it)

I really LOVED Imajin because they weren’t like your average boy band. (I’m pretty sure I had my friends in elementary loving them too w/o hearing a single song. I seem to have that affect on people. Which is why I belong in this industry.) Sure the label made them dress similar but they played their own instruments which a lot of other boy bands/groups don’t do til this day. Imajin was just ORIGINAL overall, raw talent who SHOULD have been promoted A LOT BETTER. Sure you can sing and dance, but can you actually create music? Well Imajin could. Check out their second single “No Doubt”. ..that’s Megan Good and YES that’s Donald Faison aka Olamide’s brother.

But just like most other boy bands they fade away due to the industry being pretty wack at times. A lot of groups who deserved to be ON TOP actually got played. Unfortunately my boys of Imajin were one of them. But as a TRUE FAN! I still support my boys whenever they decide to make their third come back (yes there was a second comeback but…idk you gotta ask them!) In the mean time you should still support them! Talib is a hot producer, graphic designer, singer (man he does a lot) check out his site http://www.taazkareem.com/

I’m following John on twitter and he keeps me dyin, Talib and Olamide are on twitter as well. But I PROMISED Olamide that I would support him and mention him in the blog for today.

(Olamide I told u to send me a picture! So I stole ur twitter one)

So Ladies and Gents….check out my boy Olamide’s aka Lamz song Slow Down” ft. Osa

You like? You hate it? It’s cool? Let me know! Let him know too!

Hit him up on myspace http://www.myspace.com/lamzmusic

I personally bang with the track it’s different…and we know how much I LOVE different music. Something new is much needed in today’s industry so support OLAMIDE! The only thing about this song that I can’t really bang with is…LOL why the chick gotta be 17? Really Olamide? That’s how you rollin now? I’m JK!

Any who….if anyone else remembers my boys of Imajin lemme know what you think/thought about them? I personally loved em. I’m about to bust out in “Ever Again” right now lol. I wonder if they have their first album still at Sony Music…hmm I might have to do some research when I get back to my internship on Thursday.

I hope you enjoyed today’s blog. I’m selfish so I had to blog about my first favorite group! I might surprise y’all with another blog tomorrow. We shall see? In the mean time… deuces.

1st Blog: I'm a BET(.com) Intern...well for a day

YAY! First blog as my alter ego Sidney Shaw (Yes Sanaa Lathan's character from Brown Sugar). I would FIRST like to thank SEAN for hooking ya girl up with my LOVELY graphics? Flyy right? I know! Follow his blog silentsmack.blogspot.com he's pretty sweet.

So today I woke up excited cuz today(June 28th) was The BET AWARDS and I LOVE award shows. I really wanted to go to the awards but pretty much all of the connects weren't helping. So I'm trying to figure out my apt situation for when I go back to michigan (oh yeah i'm in LA for the summer) when I get a phone call from Kim Osorio (do your research...she's too flyy for me to have to put you up on game
http://kimosorio.com) asking me was I still interested in being an intern today for the awards. Am I interested? OF COURSE!
(Thank you, thank you, thank you THANK YOU Ms. Osorio for the opportunity!!) So I tried my best to get ready. I had no clue if i'd be outside or inside or what writing so I said HEY and threw on this Sean John dress I had (Yes Ciroc Obama!) Yeah I soon regretted wearing that dress the minute I stepped into the production trailer.

I met Quan Lateef aka Qdluv today. It really made my day. She used to have a show in Kalamazoo called 7 Degrees Jams I remember watching that show ALL the time when I was little. She's pretty much part of the reason as to why I wanted to do whatever it is I want to do. I was super excited when I met her it was funny but hey I give respect to be people who deserve it and she's been making it major moves since forever! Home girl is a Production Manager for BET.

So pretty much I was an intern for BET.Com (check out my teasers somewhere on the site. pretty much the 106 pre show ones) I had to sit and watch 106 & Park and write down the highlights for each segment. I don't usually watch the ENTIRE episode of 106 just cuz Rocsi annoys me. But I guess it's different when u are watchin it for a purpose. Once the show started I didn't have anything else to do so I just chilled in the production trailer and watched the show. It was really interesting to sit and watch how edits, and cuts are made and the whole behind the scenes things works. I really LOVE that part of the industry. Working as a Sony Music intern I'm learning about contracts and and music licensing so learning about how BET.com works was really cool too. Plus the stuff at BET.com is pretty hilarious too.

I ventured off for awhile and ended up seeing from a far, Ne-Yo, Letoya Luckett, and Ciara. I went downstairs so I could get a better of view of things and ended up being right next to Mike Epps, then I turned and seen the guys of Day 26. I watch MTB all the time cuz they are too funny. I didnt' wanna be a groupie so I waited until some other chick (probably a groupie hoe) walked up to them before I asked to take a picture. Brian was MAD cool, so was Q and Big Mike. I took a pic with Brian but it didnt' come out too well. (meaning I'm not posting it). Their handler ( i guess) told them they had to bounce, everyone walked away except for Will he had turned around and seen me so he stopped and gave me a hug it was pretty cool. I LOVE when artist are actually down to earth especially when they are on REALITY TV that the FANS are the reason as to why they are HOT. So big ups to DAY 26! Oh yeah. So I was about to go back to the trailer when I turned and I saw Beyonce. I'm not really a Beyonce fan, but I support her music. Y'all I promise Beyonce has a GLOW to her. She's gorgeous. I can't even HATE. Everyone who knows me KNOWS...I'm not a BEYONCE FANATIC so this is a MAJOR compliment coming from me.

Something random...So i won't say any names but a BET.COM staff member had me writing teasers and what not and redo the ones he had created. THIS GUY writes "TV is like a box of chocolates cuz you never know what you're going to get!"---FAIL. FAIL. FAIL. I have to protect his identity because that was pretty much TERRIBLE. LOL but funny.
One thing I might say about that is as corny as it sounded...it's kind of true. It was so many behind the scenes things that occurred at the awards that the public doesn't know happened or don't get to see. That's the most interesting thing to me and thats what makes me want to be in this industry because I like putting in work only to get a great final product once it's done. I had fun today with my I'm a BET(.com) INTERN for a day. I wanted my first blog to be an Michael Jackson blog but i've let too many days past. R.I.P. do Michael Jackson. That Ne-Yo and Jamie tribute for "I'll Be There" was SO AMAZING.

I'm currently watching this show about Toya and Tiny. NO COMMENT. I'm just trying to translate WTF they are saying. Can I get captions please?
Tired. Calling it a night. I'll actually post a meaningful blog tomorrow. F.Y.I.-It's Sidney Shaw full force now. Sony Music intern, DalTek intern, and BET.com intern (for a day LOL) This should be a great summer. It really should. okay wait. Tiny's dad makes the show a little more interesting...it actually makes you care like the fact that he has Alzheimer's but he remembers all the songs from the music group he was in. THANK YOU to the producers who decided to put this on the show. This might gain some better ratings. Okay...one more thing. I didn't know Tiny wrote "No Scrubs" and I'm loving the fact that she still wants to work but T.I. (TIP as she says lol) doesn't want her to. WOW. It's like before I met you I had my career and why I gotta change it up now? I totally feel her. I think I might be hooked on this show now. Its actually good and not ignorant like I predicted. I say WIN.

Head to BET.COM and check out all the highlights from the 2009 BET Awards. Encore Presentation is Tuesday as well. But until then GO TO BET.COM (Believe me they're NOT paying me to say this)
